Color Ripples is a glitch in Paradise level where colored ripples of different intensities can be observed when "water skating" on top of some waterfalls. The foam of some waterfall can also become colored, as well as the symbols in the air upon touching a companion, a jellyfish...

How and where to do it[]

The glitch occurs only in the Paradise level.

Triggering the colors[]

To obtain the colors, you have to go on top of the final mountain, and fly toward the East a little while.

PC-only-SMALL-75x43: Before triggering the colors, make sure to use medium or high dune detail in the game options ! The setup explained here will only work with these settings. Other glitches on the PC version also depend on dune detail.

Reaching the mountain top[]

To get on the top of the mountain you have many possibilities, here are a few ideas:

Cb point paradis

Click here to see details on how to use this finicky Charge Boost point

  • With a companion, by starting from the top of the goo/yellow fluid, just before reaching the final walk inside the mountain: you can do tandem flying from there and try to reach a platform on the left side of the mountain instead, where you can walk upon. The platform is hard to reach this way because the flight ceiling is close to its height (flight ceiling = when you can't jump higher anymore without first resting on a platform). It may still be the best option with a rather inexperienced companion in fancy flying. After reaching it you can charge boost on the edge of this platform against the mountain. Otherwise you can just walk along this side of the mountain further West and then North, until you can climb it without slipping down. Be careful to not fall OOB under the mountain when going too far North though: as soon as the ground allows you to climb up the mountain without sliding, you should do it and not walk any further North.
  • Starting from the top of the goo, you can do a level dive boost and reach the CB spot mentioned above.
  • Starting from the floor of the final walk, just before losing your scarf on the West side, you can do a Slow Boost to reach the CB platform mentioned above.
  • It is possible to slow boost / infinite boost up the top of the mountain directly for more advanced fancy flyers using a controller.

Flying East then back in-bounds[]

After reaching the top, walk/fly a bit North until getting out of the sky box.

With a companion you can then try to tandem fly or coast for a while over the fog limit while heading East and remaining North of the sky box.

  • It doesn't matter how far North you are, as long as you remain out of the sky box. But don't go too far North either or you may enter the blackness !
  • It doesn't matter either how high you are, as long as you remain far enough North outside the sky box. (You can even walk at the very bottom below the mountain ! But you may have more troubles getting back in-bounds from there unless able to Reverse Dropshoot). Staying above the fog layer laying near the mountain's top sure helps keeping track of where you are headed though !
  • How far East to go? Beyond about at least -300 units on the West-East axis (see the screenshot below to see what distance to the mountain this looks like in-game). But you can go as far East as you want (it is recommended to go a little too far East rather than not enough of course for your first attempts).
-300 units east to trigger color ripples

-300 units East outside the skybox ; far enough from the mountain to trigger color ripples

If solo, you can just infinite boost for a while, starting from the top of the mountain (infinite boost is easier in paradise level). If you got troubles with infinite boost maybe reverse dropshoot first in circles to gain some altitude and then do multiple dive boost/level boosts/slow boost towards the East.

After a little while flying East (about a minute or two tandem flying at least), get back inside the sky box and then in-bounds through the wind walls, which are easy to cross from OOB side. You can aim for the stepped pools where the whales await you.

Color ripples[]

Start water skating on top of any big waterfall from the stepped pools to see the result ! (final open area with the whales looping)

While water ripples are naturally transparent or slightly orange, they can be of many different colors after triggering them in OOB as explained above. Colors often change depending on your location over the waterfalls, so move around. The color(s) you will get are random and probably depend on your position or flying route before entering back inside the sky box. They can either be very bright or rather pale and harder to see. You can also have a bit of both.

You can retry as many times as you want and may end up with different colors at every tries !

It might take you several tries before you succeed so don't feel discouraged. Sometimes a portion of the color ripples remain transparent or orange-ish after triggering a few colors, so feel free to test different spots before heading up the mountain again and retry.

Colored waterfalls and symbols[]

They seem to be triggered about the same way as the color ripples, yet having color ripples doesn't always mean having colored waterfalls. It is also possible to have colored symbols but normal ripples,...

Each waterfall's foam is only 1 color at a time, though 2 nearby foams can be of 2 distinct colors (for example in the lake section).

Note there is a way to only trigger colored waterfalls with normal ripples, by flying over the sky box toward the East (rather than remaining North of it). This is done after flying around the wind walls leading to the mountain and going back South a little to then fly over the skybox in OOB.

The known color-changing waterfalls are listed in the picture below, on behalf of 0278:

Losing the colors?[]

You can lose the colored effect when flying over the slide section of the level ! Avoid that at all cost if you wish to keep them.

If when pressing the screensaver button it shows the slide, this action will also make you lose the effect due to physically placing the camera there !

Low/Ultra dune detail colors[]

PC-only-SMALL-75x43 It is also possible to trigger color ripples South of the level as shown in this video, but using ultra/low dune detail:

Trivia[]

PC-SMALL-75x43 You can trigger color ripple using low or ultra dune detail, even after having re-entered the sky box, but you will have to change back to medium or high dune detail before getting back in-bounds, or close to it.

Quotes[]

About the color ripples, it seems to work well on pc with low settings. Color have different intensity, sometime very flashy sometime very light. I have often green yellow and magenta/red. And if i don't activate the carpets, there's few color waterfall. Dunno if it work the same on ps4/ps3. I only got one color at the time so far.
